Things To Do in White Bear Lake, MN
A city in Ramsey County in the great state of Minnesota, White Bear Lake also extends a smidgen into Washington County. It is located on White Bear Lake, one of the most significant lakes in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area.
The city is named for the largest lake in the area, White Bear Lake. There are many conflicting versions of the legend that explain the origin of the name. Both Mrs. Carl T. Thayer and Mark Twain both have written on the topic but with different endings to the legend and tale.
The largest man-made event in 1868 was the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad officially opening the extension to White Bear Lake. This was a huge gala occasion. Up to this point, many writers in multiple publications had popularized the area as a resort. The town wasn’t incorporated as the City of White Bear Lake until 1921 after decades of being a resort and host of several clubhouses.
The area is great for water adventures on White Bear Lake, with multiple places providing boat rental and fishing equipment rental. During the winter months, ice fishing is prevalent on the lake. Iceboats sail at high speeds when free of surface snow and all sorts of snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
