The city of Hudson is the county seat of St. Croix County, WI, and has a village just north of it called North Hudson. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area.
It was originally called Willow River, then later named Buena Vista by Judge Joel Foster, who founded River Falls. It was named for his fight in the Battle of Buena Vista. A petition later circulated to change the city’s name to Hudson because the bluffs along the St. Croix River resembled the Hudson River in New York.
Willow State River Park features a very clean beach area with plenty of seating alongside picnic tables and flush toilets for casual and devoted visitors alike. Phipps Center for the Arts is a great place to go for fun and wholesome shows, and local productions are put on regularly year-round for live audiences.
